Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has called on communities to sustain efforts to rid the state of criminal activities.
The Governor made this known while receiving traditional rulers and key stakeholders from Lokoja II Constituency during a courtesy visit to the Governor at the Government House in Lokoja.
He reiterated his administration’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state, emphasizing that security remains a top priority of the government.
Governor Ododo observed that Kogi State is uniquely endowed with abundant mineral resources, a factor he said has inadvertently attracted criminal elements to some parts of the state.
He however stressed that with a united front among citizens, the state is well-positioned to eliminate insecurity.
He called on royal fathers and youths to resist the temptation of being used as informants by criminal elements.
He also urged stakeholders in communities to collaborate with the government by providing credible intelligence to support security operatives in the fight against crime.
The Governor commended the synergy among security agencies, noting that his administration will continue to deploy both kinetic and non-kinetic strategies in tackling insecurity across the state.
He further emphasized the importance of community policing, explaining that it would help address manpower shortages among local vigilante groups while strengthening grassroots security architecture.
Earlier, the Chairman of Lokoja Local Government Area, Abdullahi Adamu, said the visit was to appreciate the Governor’s efforts in improving the security situation within the constituency.
He noted that peace and security form the bedrock of development, adding that farmers are gradually returning to their farmlands as conditions improve.
Speaking on behalf of the traditional rulers, the Maiyaki of Kupa, HRH Isah Kabiru Dauda commended the Governor’s efforts in securing communities in Lokoja local government and other parts of the state.
He appealed for government intervention in road infrastructure and educational development in the area.
Stakeholders from Lokoja II constituency pledged their continued support for the administration, assuring the Governor of their readiness to partner with the government in sustaining peace and development across the Constituency.
