The Kogi State Government says it has intensified efforts to restore peace and stability in Ibaji Local Government Area following the recent communal clash between the Ishi and Itale communities.
Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, represented by his Deputy, Comrade Joel Salifu, led a government delegation to the affected communities to assess the situation and reassure residents of the commitment of the state government to protect lives and property.
The Deputy Governor urged the warring communities to embrace peaceful coexistence, refrain from actions capable of escalating tensions and cooperate with security agencies and government officials working to restore normalcy in the area.
He stressed that the state government remains determined to ensure lasting peace and prevent further breakdown of law and order in the affected communities.
He assured residents that necessary steps are being taken to strengthen security presence and sustain dialogue aimed at achieving a permanent resolution to the conflict.
Community leaders explained that the crisis, which dates back to 2020 emanated from disputes over farmland and fishing boundaries between the two communities.
They noted that despite several peace efforts and court interventions, isolated attacks and renewed tensions have continued to threaten harmony in the area.
