KOSIEC Announces May 20 Campaign Kick-Off for 2026 LG Elections

The Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission has formally notified all registered political parties and their candidates that campaigns for the October 17, 2026 Local Government Elections will officially commence on Wednesday, May 20, 2026.

In a public notice signed by the Chairman of the Commission, Mamman Nda Eri, the Commission stated that the commencement date is in line with the timetable and schedule of activities earlier released for the conduct of the council elections across the state.

The Commission urged political parties to comply with the approved campaign timetable and conduct all political activities in accordance with the Electoral Act 2026 and other guidelines issued by the Commission.

According to the statement, all campaigns must be issue-based, peaceful, and devoid of hate speech, violence, intimidation, and any form of electoral malpractice.

KOSIEC further reminded political parties to respect public order and security regulations, avoid inflammatory language or actions capable of disrupting peace, comply with campaign finance regulations and reporting requirements, and ensure that campaign activities do not obstruct public infrastructure or violate environmental and sanitation laws.

The Commission also disclosed that security agencies and other relevant stakeholders have been fully engaged to monitor compliance with electoral guidelines and guarantee a level playing field for all participants.

Reaffirming its commitment to a free, fair, and credible electoral process, KOSIEC called on all political actors and stakeholders to contribute positively to the sustenance of peace and democracy in the state.
