FG Signs Eight Major Road Projects Nationwide

The Federal Government of Nigeria has signed agreements for eight major road projects across different parts of the country as part of efforts to improve infrastructure and boost economic activities.

Minister of Works Dave Umahi disclosed this during the signing ceremony held at the Ministry of Works headquarters in Abuja.

The projects include major sections of the Calabar-Ebonyi-Abuja Superhighway, the Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway, the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, and the Akwanga-Jos-Bauchi-Gombe-Biu-Maiduguri Road.

Other projects signed are the reconstruction of the Mando–Birnin Gwari Road in Kaduna State, dualisation of the Ibadan–Ijebu Ode Road linking Oyo and Ogun states, as well as the construction of the Osogbo–Ikirun–Akoda and Osogbo–Iwo–Ibadan roads in Osun and Oyo states.

Umahi said investors had already started showing interest in refunding and tolling parts of the legacy highway projects, adding that the roads would improve transportation, trade, and connectivity across the country.

According to the minister, the Calabar-Ebonyi-Abuja Superhighway will significantly reduce travel time between the South-East and Abuja to about three to four hours while boosting commercial activities in the region.

He described the projects as part of the growing infrastructure achievements of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration and commended the President for increasing federal presence in the South-East through road development projects.
