Kogi Inaugurates Committee on Data-Driven Development Planning

The Kogi State Government has inaugurated a 21-member State Consultative Committee on Statistics (SCCS) to strengthen statistical coordination and enhance the implementation of the state’s 32-year Development Plan.

The Committee is expected to serve as the central advisory body for coordinating, standardizing, and improving data collection processes within the state’s economic planning framework.

Inaugurating the Committee on behalf of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo in Lokoja, the Secretary to the Government of Kogi State, Folashade Arike Ayoade, stressed the importance of accurate and reliable data in driving meaningful development and informed decision-making.

She noted that continuous data review and sectoral analysis are critical to the successful execution of the administration’s development agenda.

According to her, members of the Committee must approach the assignment with dedication and teamwork to ensure effective sector-by-sector collection of vital data across the state.

Dr. Ayoade explained that the Committee would harmonize data collection activities across Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), as well as Local Government Areas, to eliminate duplication and improve operational efficiency.

The Secretary to the State Government noted that the Committee would also assess the technical quality of statistical data to support evidence-based policymaking, socio-economic planning, and infrastructure development.

She congratulated members of the Committee on their inauguration and urged them to justify the confidence reposed in them by delivering results that would contribute meaningfully to the growth and development of Kogi State.

Speaking on behalf of the Committee, Chairperson of the Kogi State Bureau of Statistics, Mrs. Ayo Irewole, expressed appreciation to Governor Ododo for the opportunity to serve.

She assured that the Committee would work to improve access to statistical information for policymakers and the public while ensuring alignment of statistical indicators with the state’s development objectives.

Mrs. Irewole further stated that the Committee would ensure consistent tracking of development indicators across Ministries, Departments and Agencies.

Members of the Committee were drawn from various Ministries, Departments and Agencies of the state government, security outfits, non-governmental organizations, and civil society groups across the state.
