Kogi State Government has commenced the clearance of an illegal trailer park following intelligence reports linking the area to criminal activities, including drug peddling and other illicit operations.

The operation, which was carried out at New Zango, Abobo, in Okehi Local Government Area, was led by the State Security Adviser, Commander Jerry Omodara (Rtd), alongside a joint security team comprising personnel of the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Police Force, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), and other security agencies.

Omodara explained that the clearance exercise forms part of the Kogi State Government’s renewed efforts to tackle crime and strengthen public safety under the administration of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo.

He noted that the operation aligns with the state’s ongoing security reforms, particularly following the recent inauguration of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), which has been tasked with responding swiftly to emerging security threats across the state.

The State Security Adviser emphasized that the location was never officially designated as a trailer park and disclosed that all trailers occupying the area had been evacuated.

He further revealed that structures identified as hideouts for criminal elements would be demolished to prevent the area from being reused for unlawful activities.

Omodara reaffirmed the government’s commitment to protecting lives and property, describing security as a top priority of the Ododo administration.

He also commended residents for providing timely and credible intelligence that aided security agencies in carrying out the operation successfully.

Recalled that the government had earlier issued warnings and directed the evacuation of the illegal trailer park, noting that the ongoing exercise was the enforcement of those directives.
