Umahi Inspects Key Federal Road Projects in Kogi

The Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi, has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to delivering critical road infrastructure across the country following an inspection of ongoing federal road projects in Kogi State.

Umahi undertook the inspection tour alongside the Kogi State Commissioner for Works, Barr. Abdulsalami Ozigi Deedat, to assess the progress of major road projects and review measures aimed at ensuring their timely completion.

Speaking during the tour, the minister described Kogi as a strategic gateway linking northern and southern Nigeria, stressing that the development and maintenance of road infrastructure in the state remain a priority under the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

He noted that the inspection enabled federal and state officials to evaluate ongoing works, interact with contractors and project engineers, and receive updates on implementation schedules, funding and challenges affecting project delivery.

The Minister who commended progress of work on the 8.2kilometer section of the Abuja-Lokoja highway now open to traffic assured residents that identified challenges would be addressed to guarantee the timely completion of the projects.

Commending the Federal Ministry of Works for its sustained intervention in the state’s road network, the Commissioner of Works, Barr. Ozigi Deedat said the ongoing projects are enhancing connectivity, facilitating commerce and driving socio-economic development across Kogi State.

He noted that Kogi’s unique position as the only state bordering 10 states and the Federal Capital Territory places it at the centre of Nigeria’s transportation network, making quality infrastructure essential to national economic growth.

According to the commissioner, the administration of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo remains committed to collaborating with the Federal Government to ensure the successful execution of infrastructure projects that improve the welfare of citizens and stimulate economic activities.

The minister was accompanied by the Deputy Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Onyekachi Nwebonyi; the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Works; the Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Works; the member representing Kabba/Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency, Hon. Salman Idris; the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Works, Engr. Abdulsalam Mohammed Sagir; and other senior officials from the Federal and Kogi State Ministries of Works.
