President Bola Tinubu has announced the renaming of the completed Institute of Petroleum Studies, Kaduna, as the General Shehu Musa Yar’Adua University of Geological Sciences and Engineering Technology.

The President made the announcement on Friday during his Democracy Day address, describing the decision as a tribute to the late military officer’s role to Nigeria’s democratic evolution and transition to civilian rule.

The President said the gesture was part of efforts to recognise key figures who contributed to the country’s democratic journey.

“Among the architects of modern democratic Nigeria, we honour General Shehu Musa Yar’Adua for his vision of national partnership.

“In recognition of his contributions, the Federal Government has approved the revitalisation and renaming of the completed Institute of Petroleum Studies, Kaduna, as the General Shehu Musa Yar’Adua University of Geological Sciences and Engineering Technology,” he said.

The President also announced national honours for more than 30 democracy heroes and soldier-democrats of the June 12 struggle, including posthumous recognitions for Dr Arthur Nwankwo and Ben Charles-Obi, with the full honours list to be released in the coming days.
