The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has begun reviewing complaints from 397 applicants disqualified during its recent recruitment exercise.
In a statement issued on Monday, October 19, 2026, the NCS National Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Maiwada, said Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, ordered a case-by-case review after meeting some of the aggrieved applicants.
The Service said the affected applicants would undergo fresh screening but stressed that the review did not guarantee admission into its training college.
Maiwada said the review was aimed at addressing genuine complaints without compromising established recruitment standards.
The Service identified substance use, including cigarettes and alcohol, physical fitness, medical records, age and submitted documents as some of the issues that led to the disqualification of the applicants.
It added that some candidates were also disqualified over irregularities in the selection process.
The NCS clarified that appearing on the final shortlist did not automatically qualify an applicant for enlistment, as candidates were required to meet all prescribed recruitment conditions.
Affected applicants were directed to submit their details and complaints to the designated email address, helpdesk@customs.gov.ng.
The Service warned that applicants found to have engaged in criminal conduct, including certificate fraud, could face prosecution.
It urged affected candidates to use the designated channel to submit their complaints, reaffirming its commitment to a transparent and accountable recruitment process.
