2026 World Cup: Egypt Earn Valuable Point in 1-1 Draw Against Belgium

Egypt secured a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Belgium in their 2026 FIFA World Cup group-stage clash in Seattle, with both teams producing strong performances in contrasting halves.

The Pharaohs controlled much of the first half and deservedly took the lead in the 20th minute through Emam Ashour, whose spectacular long-range strike left the Belgian goalkeeper with no chance and sent Egypt into the break ahead.

Belgium emerged for the second half with renewed energy and attacking intent, pinning Egypt back and creating several opportunities in search of an equaliser. Kevin De Bruyne came agonisingly close to levelling the score with a beautifully curled free-kick, but his effort crashed against the woodwork.

The breakthrough eventually arrived in the 66th minute shortly after the introduction of Romelu Lukaku. The striker made an immediate impact, with his presence in the box contributing to a defensive mistake that resulted in an own goal by Mohamed Hany, bringing Belgium back on level terms.

Despite late pressure from the Europeans, Egypt’s defence remained resolute to secure a valuable point. The result leaves both sides still battling for qualification from the group stage as the tournament progresses.
