The Vice-Chancellor of Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH), Osara, Prof. Abdulrahman Asipita Salawu, has commended the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) for supporting the growth and development of tertiary education in Nigeria.
Prof. Salawu made the commendation on Saturday when he received the TETFund Board of Trustees member representing the North-Central Zone, Dr Hassan Abdulrahman Ocholi, at his office in Osara.
According to a statement signed by the Institution’s Information, Public Relations and Protocol Unit, the Vice-Chancellor said the interventions had improved teaching, learning, research and infrastructure in universities across the country.
Prof. Salawu recalled that TETFund supported CUSTECH at its formative stage in 2021, before the university commenced academic activities, with funding for the construction of three faculty buildings and a 500-seater lecture theatre.
He said the intervention demonstrated TETFund’s commitment to supporting the efforts of the Kogi State Government in establishing and developing the university.
“Since then, CUSTECH has continued to benefit from one TETFund intervention or another, and these interventions have contributed immensely to the rapid growth and development of the university,” he said.
The Vice-Chancellor appealed to TETFund to support the full solar powering of the College of Basic Medical Sciences, while also requesting support for the completion of the Central Engineering Workshop.
Responding, the TETFund Board of Trustees member representing the North-Central Zone, Dr Hassan Abdulrahman Ocholi, commended the progress recorded by CUSTECH, describing its infrastructural and academic development within six years as impressive.
He explained that his visit to CUSTECH was to inspect completed and ongoing projects funded by TETFund, as well as identify the infrastructural needs of the university for possible intervention.
Dr. Ocholi assured the university management that the requests presented would receive due consideration.
He added that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu would continue to ensure that the education sector received the necessary attention, while appealing to Nigerians to support the administration.
CUSTECH’s management team led the delegation on an inspection tour of the TETFund-sponsored Anatomy Building, which he said played a significant role in strengthening the university’s facilities during its medical and dental accreditation exercise.
