The Kogi State Government’s workplace security and workers’ welfare sensitisation campaign has extended to Ogori-Magongo Local Government Area, with labour leaders calling for greater vigilance and sustained engagement between government and workers.
The campaign, led by the Special Adviser to the Kogi State Governor on Labour Matters, Comrade Onuh Edoka, is aimed at sensitising local government workers on workplace security, vigilance and preparedness against banditry and kidnapping.
The exercise, which commenced in Kogi Central, also highlights the importance of continuity in government policies and programmes affecting workers’ welfare ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during the campaign, the NULGE Chairman in Ogori-Magongo Local Government Area, Comrade Alabi Shole, commended Edoka and his team for the initiative, describing the visit as timely and unprecedented.
Earlier, the Vice Chairman of Ogori-Magongo LGA, Mr Williams Also, who received the delegation, described organised labour as a dependable ally in democratic governance.
He stressed the need for continued engagement between government and labour to promote workers’ welfare and strengthen industrial harmony.
Edoka, while addressing workers during the campaign, emphasised that security is a collective responsibility, urging workers to remain security-conscious both within and outside their workplaces.
He also highlighted various workers’ welfare initiatives of the administration, including the implementation of the new minimum wage, payment of full salaries to local government workers, hazard allowances for health workers, health insurance coverage for workers and pensioners, promotion arrears and leave bonuses.
The Special Adviser further urged workers to pay attention to government policies that directly affect their welfare and job security when making political decisions ahead of the 2027 elections.
The Kogi State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Comrade Gabriel Amari, said the labour movement’s support for the campaign was based on what he described as the achievements of the current administration in workers’ welfare.
Also speaking, the Senior Technical Adviser to the Governor on Urban Development, Comrade Chief Godwin Edime, called for continuity in government, saying it would help sustain policies and programmes benefiting workers.
The sensitisation campaign was held under the theme: “Workplace Security: Protection, Sensitisation and Preparedness Against Banditry and Kidnapping.”
Chairmen of other industrial unions and political appointees also participated in the campaign.
