Kogi State Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Hon. Timothy Ojomah has received a Peace Award in his recognition of his public service and contributions to food security and sustainable livelihoods.
The award was presented to Ojomah by the Movement for Peaceful and Equitable Governance in Nigeria (MOPEGON) a Non-governmental organization committed to the promotion of peace and livelihoods as part of activities marking the United Nations International Day of Peace, with emphasis on the link between good governance, food security, sustainable livelihoods and peaceful communities.
Presenting the award, Director-General of the organization, Bello Omeiza, said the recognition was in line with the organisation’s commitment to good governance, peacebuilding and improved welfare for citizens.
Omeiza said public officials had a responsibility to promote peace, security and development, stressing that agriculture and food production were important to achieving those goals.
He described Ojomah as a distinguished indigene of Kogi whose impact in public service had extended from the grassroots to the state level.
Omeiza also recognised Ojomah’s public service and grassroots engagement, particularly his participation in an Inter-Ministerial Workshop on Alternative and Sustainable Livelihoods with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
Receiving the award, Ojomah dedicated it to the people of Kogi State, farmers and stakeholders supporting agricultural development in the state.
He commended Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for interventions in the agricultural sector, including the provision of farm inputs and machinery, as well as support for modern farming practices.
Ojomah also highlighted partnerships with IFAD, ACReSAL and L-PRES, the 2026 wet-season farming programme and the Technical Working Group on agroecology as efforts to improve productivity, strengthen food security, create jobs and enhance livelihoods in the state.
He called for greater cooperation among government agencies, farmers, investors and development partners to advance sustainable agriculture and improve livelihoods.
The Commissioner reaffirmed his commitment to supporting policies and programmes aimed at improving the welfare of farmers and other stakeholders in the agricultural value chain across the state.
