Twenty-one local government area chairmen and 226 councillors in Adamawa State have defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The council chairmen announced their departure from the PDP in resignation letters addressed to their respective ward chairmen, citing personal reasons and consultations with political associates.
Adamawa State APC Publicity Secretary, Victor Dogo, confirmed the development, stating that all 21 local government chairmen, area development administrators and 226 councillors had joined the ruling party.
Dogo attributed the mass defection to the officials’ decision to align politically with Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, who recently defected from the PDP to the APC.
The development comes months after the officials were elected on the PDP platform during the June 13, 2026, local government elections, despite Fintiri’s earlier departure from the party.
The mass defection marks a major political realignment in Adamawa State, strengthening the APC’s position across all 21 local government areas.
