Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has said the new Ultra-modern Market is designed to expand commercial opportunities and address recurring road accidents associated with traffic congestion with the location of the existing market.
Governor Ododo stated this during an inspection visit to the site of the new Ultra-Modern market where he explained that the decision to establish the new market in a different location was driven by the need to protect lives while creating a modern commercial hub for the state.
He noted that although the former market location may have been suitable when it was first conceived, changing circumstances had made it increasingly unsafe, with residents exposed to frequent accidents.
Ododo said the state sought the support of President Bola Tinubu for the new location and received his approval, describing the project as a practical demonstration of cooperation between the Federal Government and the states.
He commended the contractors for the pace of work, noting that construction was progressing day and night, with equipment and workers actively engaged across the site.
The Governor, however, said the pace of construction has placed an added responsibility on the government to meet its financial obligations to the contractors, assuring that the administration was prepared to fulfil its commitments to ensure timely delivery of the project.
Ododo also challenged critics of the Tinubu administration to assess its performance through tangible projects rather than political rhetoric, describing the economic challenges confronting Nigeria as inherited problems that the President was working to address.
He said the real contest in 2017 is between those committed to improving the lives of ordinary Nigerians and the forces working against the interests of the poor, vulnerable and the voiceless in Nigeria.
Earlier, Project Manager of SABC Limited, Engr. Lamidi Lassisi, said the contractor had mobilised the necessary resources and put measures in place to deliver the project within stipulated timeline.
Recall that Governor ododo on Tuesday inspected the ongoing Zariagi International Airport, commending the pace of work and projecting that the project would be completed by 2027.
While the new Ultra-Modern market is expected to provide a safer and more conducive environment for traders, the Kogi International Airport is positioned to improve connectivity, enhance logistics for industrial growth and strengthen the state’s ability to attract local and international investors.
