The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has arrested the personal physician of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, Professor Bello Abubakar, over allegations of making false statements in connection with an ongoing corruption investigation.
According to the anti-graft agency, the arrest is linked to a court-approved medical visit granted to El-Rufai while he was in the commission’s custody. The ICPC alleged that the visit was used for activities beyond the purpose approved by the court, including meetings with political associates.
The commission further claimed that Professor Abubakar made false statements regarding the circumstances surrounding the medical visit. However, it did not disclose the specific details of the alleged falsehood, stating that investigations are still ongoing.
The ICPC said a joint investigation team has been established to examine the events surrounding the medical visit and determine whether there was a breach of the court’s directive.
As of the time of filing this report, neither Professor Abubakar nor El-Rufai had publicly responded to the allegations. No court has found either individual guilty of any wrongdoing, and the matter remains under investigation by the commission.
