The Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday granted bail to the National President of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, Bello Bodejo, in the sum of N2 billion as he continues to face trial over allegations of money laundering and terrorism financing.

Justice Inyang Ekwo approved the bail application after hearing submissions from both the prosecution and the defence. The court also imposed conditions that Bodejo must fulfil before he can be released from custody. However, the specific conditions were not immediately made public.

Bodejo is standing trial on a 12-count charge filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), bordering on alleged money laundering involving about $2.63 million and terrorism financing. He pleaded not guilty to all the charges when he was arraigned earlier this month.

During the earlier proceedings, the prosecution opposed his bail application, arguing that he posed a flight risk and could interfere with witnesses due to his influence. The defence, however, urged the court to grant bail, insisting that the defendant would make himself available for trial.

Following Monday’s ruling, the court adjourned the case to a later date for the continuation of trial.
