Nigeria’s Goodness Nwachukwu produced a sensational performance to claim the gold medal in the women’s F42–44/F61–64 discus throw at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, setting a new F42 world record in the process.
Nwachukwu sealed victory with a stunning final-round throw of 39.66 metres, surpassing her previous F42 world record by more than three metres. The remarkable effort secured the gold medal and further cemented her status as one of the world’s leading para-athletes in the event.
The Nigerian star remained among the front-runners throughout the competition before delivering the decisive record-breaking throw that put the contest beyond the reach of her rivals.
Wales’ Funmi Oduwaiye claimed the silver medal with a best throw of 38.52 metres, while compatriot Bree Cronin took bronze after recording 36.00 metres. Canada’s Addisyn Franceschini finished fourth with 32.48 metres, while Nigeria’s Destiny Agbo placed fifth with a throw of 33.79 metres.
The victory marks another major milestone in Nwachukwu’s career and adds another gold medal to Team Nigeria’s tally at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games. It also reinforces Nigeria’s growing reputation as a force in international para-athletics.
