Workers across the 21 Local Government Areas of Kogi State have endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for a second term in office ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The endorsement came at a rally organized by the workers at the Muhammadu Buhari Square in Lokoja.
Speaking at the event, Governor Ododo commended the local government workers for their solidarity and support, describing their endorsement as a reflection of their confidence in the direction of both the state and federal governments.
The governor expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for his continued support for Kogi State, noting that the federal government’s interventions had created an enabling environment for the state to pursue major development projects and meet its obligations to the people.
Ododo cited the federal government’s intervention through key projects in the state, including the international airport and international market, road infrastructure and approval for the power transmission line in Kogi East as well as its improved financial allocations to the state.
He said the support had strengthened the capacity of the state government and the local government councils to undertake projects and programmes that directly affect the lives of residents at the grassroots.
“The people of Kogi State are not only aware of the interventions of the President’s administration but are also beginning to feel their impact in their communities at the grassroots,” he added.
He assured President Tinubu of the state’s continued support, declaring that Kogi remained firmly behind his administration ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Governor Ododo said the endorsement by local government workers demonstrated the confidence of the people at the grassroots in the leadership of the President and the state government, adding that the people would continue to support an administration whose interventions are producing tangible benefits for the people of the state.
The Accountant-General of Kogi State, Dr Habibat Onumoku, who served as the host of the endorsement rally, commended President Tinubu and Governor Ododo for their people-oriented approach to governance.
She described the Ododo administration as empathetic and responsive to the needs of residents across the state, saying its priority to the welfare of the people had contributed significantly to the support it enjoys at the grassroots.
She also praised the administration for its commitment to inclusiveness, particularly the involvement of women in leadership positions.
According to her, the representation of women in key positions under the present administration demonstrates a broader approach to inclusive participation in governance in the state.
Also speaking, the Director of Local Government and Chairman of the Forum of Directors of Local Government in Kogi State Aliyu Musa, affirms the endorsement of the local government workers based on the development efforts of the state government across the 21 local government areas.
Musa commended Governor Ododo for his attention to the needs of the local governments and for maintaining a working relationship that has enabled the councils to function more effectively and deliver services to people at the grassroots.
He noted that the development of Kogi State could not be separated from the strength and effectiveness of its local government system, stressing the importance of continued collaboration between the state government and the councils.
He also commended President Tinubu for supporting the state and local governments, saying such interventions have contributed to the implementation of development initiatives across the state.
He reaffirmed the commitment of local government workers and council officials to the administration Governor Ododo.
The Chairman of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria in Kogi State and executive chairman of Yagba West Local Government Area, Tosin Olokun, commended Governor Ododo and President Tinubu for their efforts towards strengthening security architecture across the state.
In his remarks, the President of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees Kogi State, Mohammed Inyanya reiterated the workers’ support for President Tinubu and Governor Ododo.
He said the confidence of local government workers in the administrations of broth President Tinubu and Governor Ododo was based on their credibility and support for local government workers and commitment to inclusive governance.
The endorsement rally brought together workers and officials from across the 21 local government areas, with the workers declaring their support for President Tinubu and Governor Ododo as they seek to consolidate their respective mandates ahead of the 2027 elections.
