Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has pledged to undertake the comprehensive renovation of Government Science Secondary School, Lokoja, as part of efforts to improve educational infrastructure and provide a better learning environment for students.

The Governor made the pledge at the flag-off of the distribution of back-to-school materials to pupils and students of public primary and secondary schools across the state by the Forum of Former Commissioners in Kogi State.

He urged students to take their studies seriously, remain disciplined and strive for academic excellence, assuring them of his administration’s continued commitment to improving access to quality education across the State.

Ododo commended the forum for supporting government educational agenda and giving back to society through interventions designed to support students and ease the burden on parents.

He said his administration remain committed to inclusive governance and acknowledged the contributions of his former colleagues to the development of the state.

Earlier, Chairman of the Forum, Salisu Sani, said the initiative was designed to complement the government’s efforts in the education sector, encourage academic excellence and reduce the financial burden on parents.

Sani explained that the forum was also committed to rewarding hard work and outstanding academic performance by providing cash gifts for deserving students in JSS 2, JSS 3, SS 1, SS 2 and SS 3 in five selected schools in the state.

The Principal of Government Science Secondary School, Lokoja, Ojapa Stephen, commended the administration of Governor Ododo for its free education policy, bursary payments to students in higher institutions, renovation of educational institutions and other interventions aimed at improving the education sector in the state.

He called for sustained support for public education, noting that such initiatives would motivate students and strengthen the quality of teaching and learning in schools.

The event was also an opportunity for presentation of back-to-school materials to pupils and students as well as cash gifts to some of the students.
