The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has arrested two suspects after uncovering a suspected counterfeit drinks facility at Zamfara Plaza, BBA Trade Fair Complex, Lagos State.
The agency disclosed the development on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, in a post on its official X account, stating that the suspects were allegedly revalidating expired energy drinks and popular wine and whisky brands for resale.
A video released by NAFDAC showed operatives inspecting the facility, where they found assorted drinks, bottles, labels, bottle caps and packaging materials allegedly used in the operation.
The footage also showed packs of Bullet Energy Drink and bottles of alcoholic beverages, including popular imported brands.
According to the agency, the suspects allegedly removed expiry labels from expired drinks and replaced them to make the products appear suitable for consumption.
NAFDAC officials expressed concern that the practice could expose unsuspecting consumers to potentially unsafe beverages.
The agency said the operation formed part of its enforcement efforts to curb the circulation of counterfeit and substandard products and protect public health.
It also urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and report suspected cases of counterfeit products to the appropriate authorities.
