The Kogi State Government is set to distribute over 3.7 million Long-Lasting Insecticide-Treated Nets (LLINs) to households across the 21 Local Government Areas of the state as part of efforts to reduce malaria prevalence and protect residents from mosquito-borne diseases.
The Coordinating Commissioner for Health, Dr Abdulazeez Adams Adeiza, disclosed this during an inspection of the warehouse in Lokoja where the nets have been kept for onward distribution to households in different local government areas.
The commissioner for health also informed that the distribution exercise is scheduled for Saturday, November 7, 2026, following the arrival and shipment of the nets to various local government areas ahead of the official flag-off.
He disclosed that the consignment comprises approximately 76,000 bales, with each bale containing 50 nets, bringing the total to over 3.7 million.
The nets, according to him will be distributed free of charge to households across the state.
He also noted that the intervention builds on the sustained efforts by the Kogi state government to combat malaria, following a recent study which indicated a decline in malaria prevalence among children under five from 16 per cent in 2021 to 8.9 per cent in the state in 2025.
The improvement, according to him, is attributed to interventions and commitments by the administration of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo towards strengthening healthcare delivery and reducing the burden of malaria in the state.
He conveyed the goodwill of Governor Ododo by urging residents to take ownership of the process by ensuring proper use and care of the insecticide-treated nets and also participate actively in the distribution exercise and to make effective use of the nets to maximise the health benefits of the intervention.
He also expressed appreciation to the Malaria Consortium, the Federal Ministry of Health and other development partners for their support towards reducing malaria prevalence in Kogi State and contributing to the national malaria elimination agenda.
The state government reaffirmed the commitment of the administration of Governor Ododo to reducing malaria prevalence in the state to below two per cent while ensuring the provision of quality, accessible, affordable and available healthcare services to the people.
