Van Nistelrooy Makes History with Leicester After Man Utd Exit

Ruud van Nistelrooy has made Premier League history with Leicester City, becoming the first manager to defeat a team twice in one season and then take charge of them shortly after. Just weeks after leaving Manchester United, the Dutchman’s return to management saw him lead the Foxes to a 3-1 victory over West Ham in his debut match as manager.

Van Nistelrooy’s appointment at Leicester follows a brief but eventful spell as Erik ten Hag’s assistant at Manchester United, where he oversaw two victories over Leicester earlier this season. After being replaced by Ruben Amorim at United, Van Nistelrooy wasted no time in returning to the dugout, inheriting a Leicester side in desperate need of survival in the Premier League.

The Foxes put in a dominant performance against West Ham, with Jamie Vardy scoring an early goal, followed by second-half strikes from Bilal El Khannouss and Patson Daka. Niclas Fullkrug pulled one back for West Ham, but it wasn’t enough to derail Leicester’s first win under Van Nistelrooy’s leadership.

Interestingly, Van Nistelrooy’s past is intertwined with Leicester, as his own record for scoring in consecutive Premier League matches was famously broken by Vardy in 2015. The pair’s friendly rivalry was highlighted when Van Nistelrooy joked about their “unfinished business” upon taking the Leicester job.

With his first win in the bag, Van Nistelrooy will look to build momentum and steer Leicester to safety, bringing a fresh sense of optimism to a club in need of direction. His swift return to the Premier League managerial scene proves that Van Nistelrooy is eager to make his mark once again.
