Kogi Hosts Mathematics Quiz to Promote Academic Excellence

The Kogi State Government recently organized a pioneering mathematics quiz competition for secondary school students in Lokoja, aimed at fostering academic excellence and nurturing young talent. The event brought together 12 schools in a competitive yet collaborative environment where students demonstrated their problem-solving skills and mathematical abilities. Bedrock International School emerged victorious, followed by ECWA Secondary School in second place, while Christ Redeemer Secondary School secured the third position.

The Commissioner for Finance, Budget, and Economic Planning, Hon. Mukadam Asiwaju Asiru Idris, addressed the gathering, emphasizing the pivotal role of education in driving societal development. He noted that the state government has committed 30% of its budget to the educational sector, highlighting the government’s dedication to investing in the future of Kogi State through quality education.

Hon. Asiru further underscored the importance of mathematics in shaping critical thinking and analytical skills, urging students to embrace the subject as a foundation for their future success. His message resonated with students, encouraging them to approach mathematics with enthusiasm and determination. He also called on young learners to view the subject as a tool for empowerment and problem-solving.

Hon. Wemi Jones also spoke at the event, highlighting the significance of academic competitions in nurturing the next generation of leaders. He appealed to parents, schools, and individuals to invest in the education of their children, stressing that mastery of mathematics is crucial for success in any field. He encouraged students to continue honing their skills beyond the competition and to remain committed to lifelong learning.

In a gesture of recognition, Hon. Jones invited the top three winning schools to his office, expressing his pride in all the participants. He emphasized that every student involved in the competition is a winner and represents the bright future of Kogi State. The event was a clear demonstration of the state’s commitment to cultivating academic excellence and preparing students for the challenges of tomorrow.
