Kogi Poly, FUL Sign MoU to Launch Degree Programmes

The Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, in collaboration with the Federal University Lokoja (FUL), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to commence the running of degree programmes at the institution.

The landmark agreement, signed on Friday, 22,2025, at the Senate Hall of the University, provides for the establishment of a Study Centre at the Polytechnic’s Main Campus in Lokoja, where regular undergraduate degree and Top-Up programmes will be offered.

Speaking at the event, the Rector of Kogi State Polytechnic, Professor Salisu Usman, described the agreement as “historic in all ramifications,” noting that it would remain one of the legacy achievements of his administration and a lasting contribution of the FUL Vice Chancellor, Professor Olayemi Akiwunmi.

According to him, the Polytechnic is fully prepared for the collaboration with quality manpower, robust infrastructure, and a conducive learning environment.

He emphasized that all programmes at the Polytechnic are fully accredited, assuring total compliance with the terms of the MoU.

“The regular degree programmes will create opportunities for interested applicants through UTME and Direct Entry modes, while the Top-Up programmes will enable Higher National Diploma holders to convert their certificates into degree qualifications on either full-time or part-time basis,” he explained.

In his remarks, the Vice Chancellor of Federal University Lokoja, Professor Olayemi Akiwunmi, described the partnership as a “dream come true,” attributing its success to the leadership quality and cordial relationship between both institutions.

He urged that implementation should commence without delay, stressing that the collaboration would advance education in Kogi State and Nigeria at large.

Similarly, the Director of the Centre for Distance and E-Learning at FUL, Professor Musa Adeku Ibrahim, recalled that the process began with a letter of intent from Kogi State Polytechnic on February 12, 2025, followed by an oversight verification visit, and final approval by the University Senate on August 7, 2025.

He noted that the MoU stood out as one of the notable achievements of Professor Akiwunmi’s administration.

Also speaking, the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics) of FUL, Professor A. E. Bala, expressed appreciation to the Rector of Kogi Poly for clarifying potential grey areas and assured that the university would uphold its commitment to the agreement.

The MoU also covers staff and student exchange, equipment sharing for practicals, as well as joint research and collaborative learning initiatives. The signing ceremony was witnessed by principal officers and management staff of both institutions.
