FG Declares Friday Public Holiday, Urges Unity Ahead of Eid-ul-Mawlid

The Federal Government has declared Friday, September 5, 2025, a public holiday in celebration of Eid-ul-Mawlid, the annual commemoration of the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad.

The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Magdalene Ajani.

In his message to Nigerians, the Minister congratulated the Muslim faithful across the country and around the world, urging them to embrace the values that the Holy Prophet stood for, including peace, love, humility, tolerance, and compassion.

He emphasized that these virtues are vital in strengthening national unity and building a more progressive society.

Dr. Tunji-Ojo appealed to Nigerians of all religious backgrounds to use the period of Eid-ul-Mawlid to reflect on the nation’s collective aspirations and to pray for peace, security, and stability. He stressed that the celebration presents an opportunity for citizens to work together towards a better and more prosperous Nigeria.

The Minister further called on Nigerians to prioritize brotherhood, mutual respect, and peaceful coexistence while also practicing selfless service to humanity. According to him, such virtues are essential for overcoming the country’s challenges and fostering social harmony among diverse communities.

He also urged citizens to remain law-abiding, vigilant, and supportive of government initiatives aimed at improving security, infrastructure, and economic growth. He noted that the government remains committed to policies that enhance the welfare and well-being of every Nigerian.

While wishing Muslims a joyful and peaceful Eid-ul-Mawlid celebration, Dr. Tunji-Ojo expressed optimism that Nigeria will continue to thrive if citizens uphold the Prophet’s teachings and collectively work towards unity and national development.
