Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, has launched a major initiative to support residents during the festive season by distributing over 100 truckloads of rice across the state. The distribution, which spans all 21 Local Government Areas, aims to ease the economic strain on families during Christmas and New Year celebrations. The gesture was confirmed by the State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mr. Kingsley Fanwo, in Lokoja on Friday.
Fanwo emphasized that this initiative reflects the Governor’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of the people. He described Ododo as the “People’s Governor” and highlighted the importance of ensuring that families could enjoy the holiday season without the added worry of rising costs. The rice distribution is part of broader efforts by the Governor to address the financial challenges many Kogi residents are facing.
In addition to the rice distribution, the Governor also ensured that civil servants received their salaries promptly on December 14, 2024. Furthermore, provisions were made for those not directly on the government payroll, underscoring Ododo’s dedication to a wide-reaching support system. Fanwo praised the Governor’s swift actions as a demonstration of his promise to prioritize the needs of Kogi citizens.
To ensure the aid reaches those most in need, the Governor has directed the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation to oversee the distribution process. Measures were also put in place to safeguard the initiative from political interference, ensuring a fair and transparent system.
Reports from the Local Government Areas reveal widespread happiness among residents, who have expressed their gratitude for the timely assistance. The distribution has been seen as a sign of the Governor’s compassion and effective leadership during a challenging time.
