Forbs Shines with Brace as Barcelona Fight Back Three Times to Earn a Point in Bruges

Barcelona fought back three times to secure a dramatic 3-3 draw against Club Brugge in a pulsating UEFA Champions League encounter that saw Carlos Forbs net twice against the Catalan giants.

‎The Belgian side made a dream start, taking the lead in the sixth minute when Carlos Forbs burst down the right flank before squaring the ball for Nicolo Tresoldi to slide home from close range.

‎Barcelona responded swiftly, restoring parity less than two minutes later through Ferran Torres, who swept in a first-time finish from Fermin Lopez’s exquisite cross to bring Hansi Flick’s men level.

‎Despite enjoying large spells of possession, Barcelona’s high defensive line was again exposed midway through the first half. Brugge capitalised on the space, as Christos Tzolis played a clever pass to Forbs, who coolly slotted home inside the box to make it 2-1.

‎The Catalans pushed forward relentlessly in search of another equaliser, coming close on several occasions. Their attacking pressure almost paid off, but the woodwork denied them twice as Brugge held on to their slender advantage.

‎Barcelona eventually drew level again in the 61st minute through teenage sensation Lamine Yamal. The youngster combined brilliantly with the lively Fermin Lopez, shrugged off two defenders, and calmly slotted the ball past the goalkeeper to make it 2-2.

‎However, Club Brugge regained the lead just minutes later. Taking advantage of another moment of defensive recklessness from Barcelona, Forbs raced onto a perfectly weighted through ball from Hans Vanaken and clipped a composed finish past Wojciech Szczęsny to put the hosts 3-2 ahead.

‎Goalkeeper Jackers of Club Brugge then produced a stunning save to deny Yamal’s curling effort bound for the top corner. Yet, he was helpless moments later when Barcelona equalised for the third time. Sustained pressure from the visitors finally told, as Yamal’s curling shot from the right channel took a heavy deflection off Tzolis’s head, leaving the goalkeeper stranded and making it 3-3.

‎This continued into the closing stages. In the 90th minute, Brugge’s Vermant thought he had sealed a famous victory after sliding in to dispossess Szczęsny and score. However, after a lengthy VAR review, referee Anthony Taylor ruled out the goal, concluding that Vermant had tripped the Barcelona goalkeeper before stealing the ball.

‎With the thrilling draw, Barcelona slipped to 11th in the standings with seven points from four games, while Club Brugge sit 22nd with four points from the same number of matches.

‎Only the top eight teams will qualify directly for the round of 16. Teams finishing between ninth and 24th will contest a two-legged playoff round to determine the remaining places in the last 16.
