First Lady Extends Support to Senior Citizens in Kogi

The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has reaffirmed her commitment to the welfare and wellbeing of elderly citizens across the country.

Speaking at the empowerment under the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) Elderly Support Scheme, Mrs. Tinubu said the programme is aimed at ensuring senior citizens live with dignity, hope and joy.

Represented by the First Lady of Kogi State, Hajia Sefinat Usman Ododo, Mrs Tinubu explained that the programme, now in its third edition has become a deliberate tradition to celebrate and support elderly Nigerians every December as a way of appreciating men and women who have laboured over the years to build the nation.

She disclosed that the scheme is designed to support vulnerable citizens aged 65 years and above across the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory, noting that a total of 9,500 beneficiaries nationwide will receive ₦200,000 each, with ₦50 million allocated to each state.

The First Lady stressed that prioritising elderly citizens remains critical to the Renewed Hope Agenda of the federal government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, adding that ageing gracefully is not only about longevity but about living in comfort and dignity, being surrounded by love and respect, and finding purpose within the community.

She further encouraged senior citizens to remain active through regular exercise, meaningful engagement and charitable activities, which she said promote peace, fulfilment and overall wellbeing.

The First Lady offered prayers for the beneficiaries, praying to God to grant them good health, peace and renewed hope.

Beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the First Lady for the kind gesture.
