Gov. Ododo Orders Crackdown on Criminals, Collaborators

Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has issued a directive to security agencies and all relevant authorities to intensify efforts in rooting out individuals and groups aiding and abetting banditry and criminal activities within the state.

Speaking during a briefing at the Government House in Lokoja following a major discovery of a cache of arms and ammunitions in the state capital, Governor Ododo warned that anyone found collaborating with bandits, terrorists, or criminal elements whether through funding, logistics, or shelter will be treated as an enemy of the state and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

The governor noted that the crackdown extends beyond direct perpetrators to include vendors, transporters, suppliers and even influential persons who provide any form of material assistance or protection to criminal gangs operating in Kogi state.

“We have no place for those who conspire with criminals to threaten the peace and security of our people, our pursuit will be relentless. Whether inside or outside the state, those who aid bandits will face justice.

To strengthen security measures, the governor mandated the establishment of a multi-agency security monitoring team stationed at key border points and entryways into Kogi State.

The team, according to the Governor, will verify the credentials of all security personnel operating in the state to prevent impersonation and infiltration by fake security operatives”.

Governor Ododo also emphasised that while these measures are robust, they do not suspend constitutional rights nor allow unlawful arrest or detention, adding that legal processes and protections of fundamental human rights remain in place.

He commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and security agencies for the support and cooperation of the Federal government, affirming the state government’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property.

Governor Ododo further stated that the directive takes effect immediately, warning that all violators will face thorough investigation, arrest, and prosecution, with properties used in criminal activities subject to forfeiture, while urging citizens to remain calm and support security agencies by providing credible information to aid the fight against insecurity.
