The Kogi Student Support Group for Tinubu/Ododo has endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for a second term in office, citing their
policies on education, students’ welfare and youth development.
The endorsement came during the inauguration of the group’s maiden executive committee held at the Government House, Lokoja.
Speaking at the event, Director-General of the group, Salau Enesi, said the group endorsed President Tinubu and Governor Ododo in recognition of their administrations’ policies on education, students’ welfare and youth development.
Enesi cited the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) as a key Federal Government initiative aimed at expanding access to tertiary education by providing financial assistance to eligible students.
He said the group’s support for Governor Ododo was also driven by the need to sustain investment in education, student welfare and human capital development in Kogi State.
“We believe that educational infrastructure, scholarships and bursary opportunities, skills acquisition and youth employment programmes are essential to the future of our state,” he said.
Enesi added that the group would continue to engage the government and advocate policies that address students’ needs.
He also announced plans for a campus-to-campus mobilisation campaign across tertiary institutions in the state to engage students through campus coordinators and expand the group’s reach.
Earlier, the group’s treasurer who is also a Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Student Sensitisation and Mobilisation, Hakeemah Ibrahim, urged the executives and students across the State to unite behind the group’s mission and participate actively in the democratic process.
She said the group has been established to bring students together through a common platform for mobilisation and engagement, with different student bodies and tribal student associations, represented to promote inclusiveness and a shared vision.
Hakeemah added that the success of the group would depend on their commitment to engaging students and listening to their concerns.
“Our mission must go beyond slogans. We must take the message to our campuses, hostels, student associations and communities. We must engage our fellow students, listen to their concerns, share credible information and encourage informed participation in governance,” she said.
The President of the National Association of Kogi State Students (NAKOSS), Isiaka Amoto, urged students to support the state government, citing the government’s recognition of efforts by students and support for the welfare of students in the state.
