NDLEA Arrest 339 Suspects, Seizes Over 7000kg of Illicit Drugs in Kogi

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested 339 suspects and seized 7,746.896 kilogrammes of assorted illicit drugs in Kogi State.

This was disclosed on Friday by the Kogi State Commander of the NDLEA, Assistant Commander General of Narcotics, Mustapha Yahuza.

According to the statement, the seizures included cannabis, cocaine, tramadol and other psychotropic substances, while the command also secured 80 convictions with varying jail terms.

Yahuza noted that the command intensified efforts in drug demand reduction through drug abuse preventive education and the War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign, carrying out 71 sensitisation programmes across motor parks, schools, markets, mosques and churches.

The Commander of the NDLEA added that 238 drug-dependent person benefited from brief counselling intervention programmes aimed at rehabilitation and reintegration.

Yahuza further disclosed that the command has received significant support from the Ohunene Empowerment Initiative, a non-governmental organisation and pet project of the wife of the Kogi State Governor, Hajiya Sefinat Ododo, particularly in public enlightenment and drug prevention activities.

He also revealed that, in collaboration with the Kogi State Government, a high-powered State Drug Control Committee has been inaugurated to drive the implementation of drug supply and demand reduction policies across the state.

The NDLEA reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining the fight against drug abuse and trafficking in Kogi State through enforcement, prevention and strategic partnerships.
