Zian Flemming’s stoppage-time header rescued a 1–1 draw for Burnley F.C. at Stamford Bridge against 10-man Chelsea F.C.
Flemming powered home in the 93rd minute from a corner delivered by James Ward-Prowse after Chelsea lost control following Wesley Fofana’s second yellow card in the 72nd minute. The hosts had earlier taken the lead through Joao Pedro in just the fourth minute and dominated much of the contest.
Chelsea now face renewed scrutiny after dropping a league-high 17 points from winning positions at home this season. The Blues have also accumulated six red cards in the Premier League and eight across all competitions.
The home side looked firmly in control early on when João Pedro bundled in a cross from Pedro Neto. Cole Palmer nearly capitalised on a mistake by Kyle Walker but failed to lift his effort over Burnley goalkeeper Martin Dubravka, while two further first-half attempts were blocked.
Burnley’s only notable opportunity before the break came when Lesley Ugochukwu volleyed over from a corner awarded under the new rule penalising goalkeeper Robert Sanchez for holding the ball too long.
After the restart, João Pedro saw another effort blocked by former Chelsea defender Bashir Humphreys and later headed over from a corner in the 66th minute. Burnley had not registered a shot in the second half until Fofana’s dismissal for a late challenge on Hannibal Mejbri shifted the momentum.
Four minutes later, Josh Laurent forced a save from Sánchez as Burnley manager Scott Parker introduced attacking reinforcements, while Chelsea boss Liam Rosenior reshuffled his defence. Flemming was left unmarked to head home the equaliser, and substitute Jacob Bruun Larsen missed a similar opportunity moments later. Chelsea supporters booed their team at full time.
Chelsea move up to fourth in the Premier League, a game ahead of Manchester United F.C., but failed to close the gap on Aston Villa F.C., who drew with Leeds United F.C.. Burnley remain second-bottom, eight points adrift of safety.
