The Kogi State Commissioner for Education, Wemi Jones, has declared open a one-day Environmental and Social Compliance training for Technical Service Providers under the Kogi State Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) project.
The training, organised by Kogi AGILE, is part of preparations for the commencement of the school renovation phase of the World Bank-supported programme.
Declaring the session open, the Commissioner emphasised that safety remains a cardinal pillar of the AGILE project.
He charged the Technical Service Providers to deliver on their mandate and ensure quality service delivery across all project sites.
He noted that the current phase of implementation reflects the administration’s strong commitment to improving learning environments, stressing that education remains a lasting variable for sustainable development in Kogi State.
Speaking earlier, the Kogi State AGILE Coordinator, Tijani Oricha, explained that the training was designed to equip service providers with the culture and operational standards required for handling World Bank-supported projects.
He noted that the compliance training addresses specific environmental and social risks that may arise during school renovation, including site safety, community impact, and strict adherence to safeguarding protocols.
According to him, compliance is particularly critical as the project transitions fully into infrastructure upgrades across benefiting schools.
He described AGILE as a community-driven initiative built on collaboration and accountability, noting that stakeholders must operate in tandem to ensure the project achieves its objectives.
Also speaking, the Administration and Gender-Based Violence Officer, AGILE, Erinms Emmanuel, said the Environmental and Social Compliance training forms part of broader efforts to strengthen capacity, improve service delivery, and ensure that school relocation and renovation processes meet global best practices under the World Bank framework.
With the official declaration, Technical Service Providers are expected to undergo intensive training modules focused on safeguards, monitoring, reporting mechanisms, and ethical standards required for successful project execution.
The AGILE project aims to improve access to quality secondary education for adolescent girls, while ensuring that learning environments are safe, inclusive, and sustainable.
