….Orders Stronger Feedback Channels Amid Viral Voice Note

The Kogi State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to inclusive governance and protection of citizens’ rights, following a viral voice note involving a civil servant that raised concerns over alleged exclusion of Ebira youths from employment opportunities in the state civil service.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo, said the development has drawn the attention of the government, alongside reactions to a related video circulating on the matter.

According to the statement, Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has taken a firm and measured position, directing that the civil servant at the centre of the controversy be accorded full protection, while also mandating the state civil service to strengthen its internal feedback and grievance redress mechanisms.

The government emphasized that the Governor’s directive underscores his administration’s core values of inclusivity, responsiveness, and respect for citizens’ rights.

The statement noted that while the views expressed in the voice note remain the personal opinion of the individual, she is entitled to freedom of expression within the bounds of the law.

The statement further stressed that the Ododo administration will not suppress or persecute any citizen for peacefully expressing their views, even as it reminded public servants of the importance of adhering to established institutional channels for communication and conflict resolution.

While expressing concern over attempts by some individuals and groups to sensationalize the issue, the government maintained that the matter is best handled through constructive engagement and institutional processes, rather than public incitement.

Reiterating its commitment to fairness, the government stated that employment into the civil service will continue to be guided strictly by merit, competence, and available resources, with due consideration for equitable representation across the state.

The administration called on residents to remain calm and disregard misinformation capable of creating unnecessary tension, assuring that it remains committed to transparency, public enlightenment, and sustained engagement with citizens.

“The voices of all citizens matter and will always be treated with dignity and respect,” the statement added, noting that constructive dialogue and adherence to due process remain essential to the state’s continued progress.
