Gov. Ododo Moves to Reposition Local Govt Administration, Commissions Ibaji Secretariat

Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has reaffirmed his commitment to repositioning the local government system with the commissioning of the rebuilt Ibaji local government Secretariat at Onyedega, headquarters of the local government council.

Represented at the event by his Deputy, Comr. Joel Salifu, Ododo noted that the project is not only an infrastructure upgrade, but a strategic move to enhance efficiency, accessibility and productivity within the local government system.

The Governor described grassroots governance as a critical pillar for inclusive development, noting that strengthening local government administration remains central to the development agenda of the government.

He commended the Deputy Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Comfort Egwaba, for facilitating the reconstruction of the secretariat, describing her effort as a testament to responsive and people-focused leadership.

According to the Governor, the new facility will provide a conducive working environment for staff, improve administrative performance and ensure that residents of Ibaji Local Government Area now have better access to government services.

Ododo also addressed concerns over poor road infrastructure in the area, assuring that the necessary groundwork for road projects has been completed, with construction expected to begin soon.

He called on residents to support the government and safeguard public facilities to ensure sustainable development in their communities.

Earlier, the Chairman of Ibaji Local Government Area, Emmanuel Ugeh, described the commissioning as a historic milestone that has revived administrative activities and strengthened governance at the grassroots.

He appealed to the state government to prioritise road construction to further boost economic activities in the area.

Also speaking, the Deputy Speaker of the Kogi State House Assembly, Rt. Hon. Comfort Egwaba, explained that the original secretariat, built in 2000, was destroyed by fire, leaving the council without a functional administrative structure for years.

She expressed appreciation to the Governor for his support and reaffirmed her commitment to delivering more impactful projects for the people of her constituency.
