BUK Kicks Off 2025/2026 Session as Lectures Begin University-Wide

Academic activities officially resumed at Bayero University Kano on Monday, May 18, 2026, with lectures commencing across various departments for the 2025/2026 academic session.

Lecturers and students expressed preparedness for the new session, as university officials stressed the importance of immediate academic engagement due to the tight academic calendar.

Speaking at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Professor Sikiru A. Olurude stated that lecturers were fully ready to begin academic work without delay.

“We resumed fully prepared and decided to start lectures immediately because of the compressed academic calendar. As a medical programme, students must stay focused and dedicated in order to graduate successfully,” he said.

The Head of the Department of Veterinary Anatomy, Dr. Abdullahi Baso, also noted that both staff and students had shown strong commitment since resumption. According to him, the session would run continuously without the usual mid-semester break.

“This academic session is designed to run on a strict schedule. Students already on campus should begin studying immediately, while those yet to resume are advised to do so quickly to avoid missing important academic activities,” he said.

Students from different faculties equally commended the smooth commencement of lectures and the cooperation shown by lecturers.

A 500-level Veterinary Medicine student, Ismail Ashiru Zage, described the resumption as encouraging.

“We are excited to return to classes. The lecturers have been supportive, and we are fully ready for the session,” he said.

Mardiya, a 100-level Industrial Chemistry student, expressed gratitude for gaining admission into the university, adding that the early start of lectures would help students remain focused academically.

Similarly, Zuleihat Titilope AbdulRauf, a 400-level student from the Department of Science and Technical Education, praised the smooth start to academic activities.

“We are pleased with how the session has started. The lecturers and staff have been very supportive, and we hope the progress continues throughout the session,” she said.

Observations across the university showed that lectures were ongoing in nearly all departments in line with the academic timetable, which fixed Monday, May 18, 2026, for the commencement of lectures.
