Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Ododo, has announced a bold initiative to guide the state’s future growth with the presentation of a 32-year development plan, covering the period from 2024 to 2056. This ambitious plan aims to lay the foundation for sustained development, focusing on infrastructure, human capital, and economic diversification, while ensuring continuity and preventing project abandonment. The proposal was introduced in the 2025 budget estimate, which Ododo presented to the Kogi State House of Assembly on Tuesday.
In a statement issued by his media aide, Ismaila Isah, Ododo explained that the 32-year plan, titled “Shared Hope and Prosperity,” is designed to transform Kogi State into a thriving, inclusive, and sustainable economy. The governor emphasized that the plan focuses on improving the quality of life for both urban and rural residents and supports new initiatives in sectors such as solid minerals development, public service reforms, and healthcare.
The development plan is divided into three phases. The first phase, from 2024 to 2033, is aimed at establishing a solid foundation for growth, with significant investments in critical infrastructure, human capital development, and economic diversification. Phases two and three, from 2034 to 2043 and 2044 to 2056 respectively, will focus on accelerating economic growth, improving governance, and enhancing environmental sustainability.
Ododo underscored that the long-term plan seeks to build resilience, foster innovation, and create wealth while ensuring Kogi remains an attractive investment destination. He stressed that by sustaining the vision, the state would continue to progress without deviation from its strategic goals.
Additionally, the 2025 budget proposal, which is pegged at N584.4 billion, is aimed at consolidating ongoing development initiatives. Of this amount, N302.8 billion (51.99%) is allocated for capital expenditure, while N279.5 billion (48.01%) will go toward recurrent expenditure. This budget represents a 43.34% increase over the 2024 budget, highlighting the government’s commitment to inclusive and sustainable development in Kogi State.
