Governor Ododo Mourns Loss of 35 Young Lives in Ibadan Stampede

Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic stampede that claimed the lives of 35 children at a festive event in Ibadan, Oyo State. In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media, Ismaila Isah, Governor Ododo conveyed his condolences to the government and people of Oyo State, describing the incident as a heartbreaking loss.

The Governor lamented the untimely deaths of these young lives, taken during what was supposed to be a joyful celebration. “It is truly devastating that these bright young Nigerians, full of potential, were lost in such a tragic incident,” Governor Ododo said. He also extended his sympathy to the grieving families, particularly the mothers who were seen distraught after the calamity.

Governor Ododo offered prayers for the bereaved families and the Oyo State community, emphasizing that Kogi State stands in solidarity with them during this painful time. “Our hearts are with the families who have lost their children and with the people of Oyo State,” he said.

The Governor also called for improved crowd control measures and emergency response protocols to prevent similar tragedies in the future, especially during large gatherings. “This incident highlights the urgent need for better safety precautions during public events, particularly in this festive season,” he stressed.

The devastating stampede occurred on Wednesday, when over 5,000 young people had gathered at a High School in Ibadan for a youth festival, underscoring the importance of stringent crowd management in such events.
