Ekiti Airport Set to Welcome Private Jets in January

Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has announced that the Ekiti Agro-Allied International Cargo Airport will open its doors to private jet landings starting in January 2025. This development follows the approval of non-scheduled flight operations by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA). The airport’s clearance for non-scheduled flights began on December 13, 2024, and will run until June 15, 2025, with plans for full commercial flight operations underway.

During a visit to Afe Babalola University, the Governor expressed gratitude to Chief Afe Babalola, the university’s founder, for his instrumental support in the airport’s construction. Oyebanji acknowledged Babalola’s significant contributions, including financing the purchase of critical navigational aids and communications equipment, which were vital for the airport’s progress. The Governor’s letter of appreciation, delivered on December 18, underscored the positive impact of Babalola’s financial support.

Oyebanji highlighted the airport’s potential to transform Ekiti’s economy by improving transportation infrastructure, which has long been a barrier to the state’s growth. He emphasized that the airport’s opening for private jets would provide a boost to local businesses and tourism, while creating job opportunities for Ekiti residents. The Governor also mentioned that the next goal is to achieve full commercial flight operations, which will further enhance the state’s connectivity.

Chief Afe Babalola, in response, praised the Governor’s efforts and reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the airport’s success. He emphasized the importance of functional transportation systems for regional development and noted the positive social and economic impacts that the airport would bring to the state. Babalola expressed confidence that the airport would stimulate local markets and reduce economic challenges in Ekiti.
