BUK Alumni Kogi Central Chapter Launches Community Food Outreach

The Kogi Central Chapter of the Bayero University Kano (BUK) Alumni Association has embarked on a commendable Food Outreach initiative to support correctional facilities, hospitals, and other institutions. This community development effort forms part of the activities marking the 4th Reunion and Annual General Meeting of the association, reflecting BUK’s values of service and societal contribution beyond academia.

As part of the outreach, members visited the correctional facility in Achoze, Okene Local Government Area, where they engaged with inmates, distributed food supplies, and shared words of encouragement to support their rehabilitation and reintegration into society. In a notable act of kindness, the alumni paid fines for some convicted inmates and provided legal assistance to a female inmate awaiting trial over allegations related to the purchase of a stolen mobile phone.

The initiative also extended to hospitals across various local government areas in Kogi Central, where alumni members visited patients, lifted their spirits, and distributed food items. This act of solidarity and compassion aimed to bring New Year cheer to patients and foster a sense of community support within healthcare facilities.

Hospital representatives praised the association for its thoughtful intervention, emphasizing the importance of such initiatives in providing immediate relief and inspiring a culture of giving and service among the broader public.

Speaking at the commencement of the outreach, Honourable Ismaila Isah, Publicity Secretary of the association, highlighted the alignment of the initiative with the vision of Bayero University Kano’s founders. He noted that the university’s mission extends to fostering societal development and improving the well-being of people through active participation.

“This outreach underscores the enduring values instilled by Bayero University Kano,” Isah remarked. “It demonstrates that education is not confined to the classroom but extends into the heart of the community, promoting service and compassion.”
