Ooni’s Ex-Wife, Hamzat, Principal Granted Bail in Stampede Case

The Oyo State High Court in Ibadan has granted bail to three prominent figures involved in the tragic stampede at Islamic High School, Bashorun, which claimed the lives of at least 35 children. The court ruling, delivered by Justice K.B. Olawoyin on Monday, covers Mr. Abdullahi Fasasi, the school’s principal; Alhaji Oriyomi Hamzat, the proprietor of Agidigbo FM; and Olori Naomi Silekunola, the ex-wife of the Ooni of Ife.

The trio had been in custody since the devastating incident on December 18, 2024, which led to the deaths of the young victims. The stampede occurred during a crowded event at the school, and the subsequent arrests of the accused followed a series of investigations by authorities. Following the court proceedings, the defense counsel presented their case, leading to the bail ruling.

Previously, the accused individuals had been remanded at the Agodi Correctional Facility by an Oyo State Magistrate Court in Iyaganku, but their legal teams successfully argued for their release. The court emphasized that the charges against them would be further examined as the case progresses.
