Kogi Corper Unveils Caregiver Lounge at FMC Lokoja

In a remarkable demonstration of community service, Corps Member Eze Priscilla Arukwe has unveiled a caregivers’ waiting lounge at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Lokoja, offering a welcoming space for families during challenging times. The lounge was inaugurated on January 15th, 2025, by His Royal Majesty, the Maigari of Lokoja, Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Gambo Kabir Maikairfi (IV), who commended Arukwe’s initiative for its profound social impact.

During the commissioning ceremony, the Maigari of Lokoja lauded Corps Member Arukwe for her foresight and compassion in executing the project. He commended her efforts as a beacon of how small yet impactful projects can address pressing community needs, urging other citizens to follow her example in driving change and fostering societal growth. He emphasized the importance of supporting caregivers, who often go unnoticed despite their critical role in healthcare systems.

The State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mr. Femi Osungbohun, also expressed pride in the project, noting that it perfectly aligns with the NYSC’s objectives of promoting unity, community development, and youth empowerment. He encouraged other corps members to look for opportunities within their host communities that could lead to tangible improvements, reinforcing the idea that community service is an ongoing and collaborative process.

Reflecting on her motivation for the lounge, Corps Member Arukwe shared that the initiative was born from a desire to provide caregivers with a dignified space to relax and recharge. She emphasized that the lounge was more than just a physical space—it was a gesture of empathy and support for those who often sacrifice their well-being while caring for others. Arukwe expressed her commitment to service, stating that the project was an expression of her faith and dedication to humanity.

The Chief Medical Director of FMC Lokoja, Dr. O.O. Alabi, expressed profound gratitude for the initiative, recognizing it as a significant contribution to the hospital’s environment. He described Corps Member Arukwe as a model of selflessness and innovation, noting that her project would continue to benefit caregivers and their families for years to come. The lounge has been handed over to the Medical Social Department for proper management, ensuring its sustainability and continued positive impact on the community.
