Champions League: Feyenoord Shocks Bayern Munich with a 3-0 Win

On a dramatic night in Rotterdam, Feyenoord delivered a stunning performance to defeat Bayern Munich 3-0 in the Champions League. A double from Mexican striker Santiago Gimenez and a late goal from Ayase Ueda secured a historic victory for the Dutch side, putting Bayern’s progression to the last 16 in jeopardy.

The loss means Bayern, six-time European champions, may face a play-off to secure a spot in the knockout stages. However, Bayern coach Vincent Kompany remained composed, saying, “We are not afraid of the playoffs. You have to earn the top eight. The format is designed to create tension.”

Despite dominating possession early on, Bayern struggled to adapt to the slippery conditions and Feyenoord’s counter-attacking strategy. The breakthrough came in the 21st minute when Gijs Smal’s long pass found Gimenez, who expertly curled his shot past Manuel Neuer.

Bayern nearly equalized through Kingsley Coman and Harry Kane but failed to convert their chances. Instead, Feyenoord doubled their lead just before halftime when Raphael Guerreiro fouled Calvin Stengs in the box. Gimenez calmly converted the resulting penalty.

In the second half, Bayern pushed hard, with Jamal Musiala and Leroy Sane testing Feyenoord goalkeeper Justin Bijlow, who delivered a standout performance. Despite relentless pressure, Feyenoord’s defense held firm, with every tackle celebrated by the home crowd.

Substitute Ayase Ueda sealed the win in the 89th minute, capping a famous night for Feyenoord fans at De Kuip Stadium. Bayern will next face Slovan Bratislava at home, while Feyenoord travels to Lille for their final group-stage match.
