Kogi Government Invests in Female Education, Pledges to Support Women

In a bid to further enhance the education of women and girls, the Kogi State Government has reiterated its dedication to empowering this demographic. The commitment was underscored during a mentorship day event held at the Federal University, Lokoja, organized by the Association of Nigerian Female Students (ANFS). Dr. Abdullahi Ozamata, Technical Adviser to Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo on Multilateral Agencies and Donor-Funded Projects, emphasized the government’s focus on advancing female education as essential for fostering societal growth and the development of future generations.

Dr. Ozamata highlighted the vital role of investing in women and girls’ education, stating that it reflects a society’s long-term commitment to its future. He assured the audience that the Kogi State Government, under the leadership of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, would continue to prioritize education as a core part of its human capital development agenda. He also pointed out that education is fundamental in guiding young girls and women to lead disciplined, empowered lives free from the negative influences of substance abuse and indecency.

In his address, the State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Monday Anyebe, urged female students to remain focused on their education and personal growth. He described young women as crucial to national development, calling on them to take ownership of their potential and contribute meaningfully to the nation’s progress. The commissioner commended the mentorship event’s speakers for their valuable insights and pledged further support to initiatives aimed at improving female education in the state.

Both Dr. Ozamata and Mr. Anyebe expressed the Kogi State Government’s ongoing commitment to women’s development by announcing substantial donations. Dr. Ozamata revealed a N1.5 million donation to support female education and mentorship, emphasizing the government’s focus on laying a solid foundation for the future of women and girls in the state. Mr. Anyebe also contributed N500,000 on behalf of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development to further enhance the educational opportunities for women in Kogi State.

The event saw a representative from the Kogi State Ministry of Women Affairs, Amir Hajarat, praising the organizers for their efforts in bringing together key stakeholders. She encouraged the students to view the event as the start of a larger movement aimed at transforming the future of young women. The support from governmental bodies and various stakeholders is a testament to the state’s unwavering dedication to female empowerment and education.

In her speech, Zuleiha Fache, the Convener and President of the Kogi State Chapter of the Association of Nigerian Female Students, passionately spoke about the importance of sustained efforts to promote girl-child education.

She urged young girls to embrace their education, resist negative societal pressures, and unlock their full potential. By emphasizing the essential role of women in nation-building, Fache reiterated her organization’s commitment to working towards the educational advancement of the girl child, an effort that is crucial for the progress of the country.
