Kogi Polytechnic Rector Pledges Enhanced Welfare, Academic Growth as He Begins Second Term

The Rector of Kogi State Polytechnic, Professor Salisu Ogbo, has reaffirmed his dedication to improving the welfare of students and staff as well as promoting academic excellence as he begins his second tenure at the institution’s helm. In a press briefing marking the end of his first term, Professor Ogbo expressed his gratitude to Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for extending his leadership role at the Polytechnic.

Professor Ogbo reflected on the significant strides made during his first tenure, particularly in the areas of academic growth, infrastructure development, and enhanced security. Under his leadership, the institution introduced new academic programs, bolstered its research capabilities, and made efforts to improve both the staff and students’ overall welfare. These achievements, he noted, were instrumental in advancing the Polytechnic’s mission to foster a conducive learning environment.

Despite facing challenges such as inadequate ICT resources, weak research culture, insecurity, and the prevalence of social vices like cultism, Professor Ogbo explained how the institution’s 3R mission – repair, reform, and restore was central in addressing these issues. The mission, he said, allowed Kogi State Polytechnic to tackle long-standing problems and emerge stronger, ensuring that it continues to maintain a focus on quality education and sustainable development.

One of the notable reforms during his first tenure was the regulation of the indiscriminate production and sale of textbooks, which, according to the Rector, contributed to the institution’s academic credibility. Additionally, the introduction of new academic programs was cited as an important milestone in the Polytechnic’s journey toward becoming a leading institution of higher learning in the country.

Professor Ogbo also highlighted the significant increase in student enrollment as an indicator of the institution’s growing reputation. He further emphasized the strengthening of the Polytechnic’s administrative framework, which he believes will improve service delivery and ensure the long-term success of the institution. With a focus on academic excellence and staff development, Ogbo assured that the Polytechnic would continue to scale new heights in the coming years.

In closing, Professor Ogbo extended his gratitude to former Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, for his pivotal role in appointing him as Rector. He expressed hope that with the continued support of both the state government and the Polytechnic community, his second tenure will usher in even more progress for the institution and its stakeholders.
