LugardTV Marks World Radio Day with Visit to Federal University Lokoja

In commemoration of this year’s World Radio Day, LugardTV, an online television platform under the Kogi State Government House Media Centre, organized a special outreach to Federal University Lokoja (FUL) to raise awareness about the importance of radio in a democratic society.

Leading the campus outreach was Sherifat Ibrahim, who engaged students in discussions on radio’s enduring significance. She highlighted how radio remains a vital tool for communication, particularly in rural and underserved communities, due to its broad reach, affordability, and immediate access to information. Ibrahim emphasized radio’s complementary role alongside television in the media ecosystem and its powerful impact on social change and development.

Ibrahim also discussed the theme for this year’s World Radio Day, “Radio and Climate Change,” stressing how radio plays a crucial role in raising awareness and encouraging sustainable practices within local communities. She encouraged the students to recognize radio’s role in shaping public opinion and addressing important societal issues such as education, health, and security.

Also, Ibrahim emphasized the importance of collaboration between media organizations and educational institutions. She urged students to consider how the media, including radio, influences society and called for stronger partnerships between the media and academic institutions to create a dynamic media environment.

In addition to celebrating radio’s significance, Ibrahim addressed the challenges faced by traditional media in the digital era. She acknowledged the importance of innovation and adaptation in maintaining radio’s relevance in today’s fast-changing media landscape. Despite these challenges, she reassured the audience that radio continues to thrive as an indispensable tool for communication.

Ibrahim expressed her gratitude to the management of Federal University Lokoja for their warm reception and active participation in the World Radio Day celebration.
The Special Adviser on Media to the Kogi State Governor, Ismaila Isah, also sent a message of support for the World Radio Day celebration at FUL. He expressed the Government House Media Centre’s commitment to fostering partnerships between media organizations and academic institutions.

Ismaila expressed confidence that such engagements would inspire students to pursue careers in media and communications, contributing to the development of a dynamic media environment in Kogi State.
