Kogi State Government has unveiled its Open Government Partnership (OGP) State Action Plan as it inaugurates the State Steering Committee, reaffirming its dedication to transparency, accountability, and inclusiveness in governance.
The unveiling ceremony, which took place on friday was presided over by the Deputy Governor of the state Comrade Joel Oyibo Salifu, who represented Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo.
Presenting the Action Plan on behalf of the Governor, Comrade Salifu, emphasized the significance of the moment as a reflection of the administration’s vision of people-oriented approach to governance.

According to the Deputy Governor:
“The Kogi State Open Government Action Plan is a document that reflects our resolve to prioritize accountability, transparency, citizen participation, and innovation in public service delivery.”
He noted that Kogi State has recorded remarkable progress in agriculture, security, investment in critical sectors of the state’s economy and emphasized that the OGP framework would consolidate by the gains and deepen reforms.
The Deputy Governor further revealed that Governor Ododo has directed all ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) to implement the commitments enshrined in the action plan to ensure measurable outcomes.
Earlier, Co-Chair of the Non-State Actors (NSA), Kogi State OGP Steering Committee, Ambassador Idris Muraina, provided insights into the OGP framework, stressing its role in strengthening democratic governance through citizen-government collaboration.
“This is not just another initiative, OGP is about co-creation, civil society and government sitting at the same table to define and pursue development goals,” he said.
He explained that the Kogi State OGP Action Plan focuses on four thematic areas with five key commitments including fiscal transparency, service delivery, access to information, and extractive sector reforms.
Amb Muraina noted that Nigeria joined the global OGP platform in 2016, while Kogi State came on board in 2022 following extensive advocacy.
The unveiling of the Action Plan and inauguration of the Steering Committee, he said, are results of months of consultations and stakeholder engagement.

According to Muraina, the OGP is built on four core values: transparency, accountability, citizen participation, and responsiveness.
He stressed that the co-created commitments require shared ownership and responsibility by both civil society and the government.
He assured that civil society organizations will remain vigilant in monitoring implementation and supporting sensitization efforts to build public awareness.
The OGP Steering Committee also inaugurated the Technical Working Group, which will drive the implementation phase of the action plan.
