Kogi Reaffirms Commitment to Corps Members’ Welfare

Corps Members’ welfare remains a top priority for the Kogi State Government, which has reaffirmed its commitment to their safety, well-being, and empowerment. This assurance was given during the NYSC Corps Employers’ Workshop at the Glass House, Government House, Lokoja, where Governor Usman Ododo was represented by the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Monday Anyebe.

Hon.Anyebe emphasized that Governor Ododo’s administration is deeply youth-centered, with deliberate efforts aimed at creating a supportive environment for corps members to serve, learn, and contribute meaningfully to the state’s development.

He added that Kogi remains committed to prioritizing corps members’ safety, welfare, and professional growth.

“The Governor places high value on youth development and he is dedicated to ensuring corps members find Kogi not only hospitable but full of opportunities for personal and career advancement,”Anyebe said.

He also called on employers to build long-term relationships with corps members, encouraging retention and skills development.

Earlier in his remarks, Kogi State NYSC Coordinator, Mr. Femi Osunbohun, commended the state government and corps employers in the state for their sustained commitment to the national youth service and youth empowerment.

He described the NYSC scheme as a transformative platform that relies heavily on strong collaboration between government, the private sector, and civil society.

Osunbohun highlighted the workshop’s theme as timely, addressing issues such as corps members’ rejection, communication barriers, accommodation, and security.

He described the gathering as a rallying point to deepen cooperation between corps employers and the NYSC to ensure a more effective and impactful service year.

A retired Deputy Director of the NYSC, Oladele Jacob, presented key recommendations to improve corps members’ experiences. These includes strengthening the co-employers’ forum, fostering synergy between NYSC officials and employers, and ensuring corps employers are equipped to provide mentorship and vocational guidance to corps members.

The event also featured cultural displays, including drama and dance, as well as the presentation of appreciation gifts to Governor Ododo and Kogi State Coordinator of the NYSC, Mr. Osunbohun, in recognition of their dedication to supporting youth and national service.
