Ondo Assembly Reshuffles Leadership as Deputy Speaker, Majority Leader Resign

A fresh wave of political restructuring has hit the Ondo State House of Assembly as two top principal officers, Deputy Speaker Mr. Abayomi Akinruntan and Majority Leader Mr. Oluwole Ogunmolasuyi, tendered their resignations during plenary on Tuesday.

Akinruntan, who represents Ilaje Constituency 1, and Ogunmolasuyi, from Owo Constituency 1, are both members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Their exits come amid what insiders describe as internal party realignments and efforts to rebalance power-sharing dynamics across the state.

Presiding over the session, Speaker Mr. Olamide Oladiji announced the leadership changes without controversy. Akinruntan, in a brief address, attributed his resignation to ongoing political arrangements and the need to uphold party unity and regional balance.

In a swift response to the leadership vacuum, the Assembly immediately filled the vacant positions. Mr. Ololade Gbegudu of Okitipupa Constituency 2 was named the new Deputy Speaker, while Mr. Olatunji Oshati of Ose Constituency emerged as the new Majority Leader.

Though the resignations appear orderly, analysts suggest they may be linked to pre-2027 political maneuvering and zoning considerations within the APC, especially as Ondo gears up for another electoral cycle.
